ALERT: Sign in CON on bill to SKYROCKET your property taxes

SAY NO TO THE PROPERTY TAX INCREASE

Property tax increase will be heard in the Ways & Means Committee meeting at 4 p.m., Monday, March 31.

Don’t let this bill out of committee.

As part of the largest tax increase in Washington state history, the majority wants to remove the 1% cap on the amount by which state and local government can increase your property taxes EVERY YEAR WITHOUT VOTER APPROVAL.

If you think your property taxes are high now, consider how high they would be if both the state and local government raised your current property taxes by 4.5% EACH.

Could you afford a 9% increase in your property taxes? That’s what could happen if Senate Bill 5798 passes.

Now consider them doing this every year and you can’t prevent it.

SB 5798 would tie the annual increase to inflation and population without a cap. We OPPOSE this bill.

DO YOU RENT INSTEAD OF OWN? YOU GET HIT TOO!

Owners of rental properties will have to pass along the higher taxes to their tenants, further increasing rents across the state. Those who can’t afford the increases will be forced out of their homes.

Don’t get taxed out of your home!

The people should get to vote on increases in their property taxes higher than 1%. If state and local governments want more money from taxpayers, they should have to convince voters to give it to them. The people of Washington are not the cash cows for the Senate majority’s $78.5 billion operating budget proposal.

Tell majority Democrats NO!

SB 5798 will be heard in committee on Monday, March 31. You can sign in CON on the bill. You can also submit written testimony or try to testify — either in person or remotely.
