We said we would deliver and we did

Statement from Senate Majority Leader Mark Schoesler, R-Ritzville, on passage of the Senate transportation package.

“We said we would deliver and we did. Today’s bipartisan vote on a statewide transportation package creates 200,000 jobs, gets our economy moving, fixes our crumbling highways and provides more accountability in the way we manage our transportation dollars. That’s a win-win for taxpayers and for our job creators.

“We delivered on reforms protecting taxpayers from cost overruns on Seattle tunnel project and other mega projects. We provided important customer protections to prevent Gov. Inslee from imposing burdensome fuel standards similar to California without approval from the Legislature.

“I believe today’s bipartisan vote will launch a season of problem-solving with our Democratic colleagues in the House. This is the first time I’ve voted for a transportation package and we owe it to the people of this state to present them with transportation solutions that restore their trust.”

The $15 billion transportation package now goes to the House of Representatives for consideration.
