Municipalities would not be able to limit housing developments to single-family homes in some areas under a proposal in the legislature. It’s an attempt to promote “transit-oriented” housing. Republican Sen. Chris Gildon is one of the sponsors.
The legislation would lead to additional prison time for jail and prison guards who sexually assault inmates or engage in other sexual misconduct.
Sen. John Braun says, while abortion is a very important issue, people are telling him they’re more concerned about the cost of living in our state.
Braun said his party is more concerned with issues like rising gas prices, inflation, and an increase in crime.
A bill to ban natural gas appliances in all new commercial construction sites died in the Legislature in 2021 but the state Building Code Council passed a similar ban.
Even the bill’s Democrat sponsor says it would likely face legal challenges in Washington, where income taxes are unconstitutional. Sen. Braun agrees and says Washingtonians don’t want income taxes.
Sen. Brown authored Open Safe, Open Now: A Republican plan for Phase 3 and Beyond.
If the bill passes and gets Gov. Jay Inslee’s signature, both sides expect the law to end up in the state’s Supreme Court.
Republican State Senator Mark Schoesler is featured explaining why the tax, which just passed out of the Ways and Means Committee, is bad for the state.
