Addition of even MORE taxes will
double what you’ll pay!
In response to the record opposition to the BILLIONS in new and higher taxes Democrats plan to implement this year, they decided to DOUBLE DOWN by more than doubling the number of tax proposals.
Let’s take a closer look:
- A new property tax bill AND a local levy lift (Senate Bill 5812): Triples the annual allowable rate by which state and local governments can raise you property taxes without a vote of the people. This is SLIGHTLY better than Senate Bill 5798, which 43,680 people signed in to oppose in committee. SB 5798 removed the cap entirely. SB 5812 lifts the cap from 1% to 3%. Still results in you paying more to live in your house or apartment. This bill also increases the amount local governments can increase local levies.
- Higher sales tax (Senate Bill 5814): Democrats BRIEFLY considered a cut to the state sales tax. That’s over with. This bill expands the sales tax on services, particularly computer and IT-related services. Among others, it will hit temporary staffing agencies, security services, data processing businesses and certain kinds of advertising.
- Higher tax on small businesses and consumers (SB 5815): Expands the tax on a business’ gross receipts, which means taxing what they make, not what they keep. This means the tax is applied total revenue, even if the business is barely breaking even or operating at a loss. This will DEVASTATE small businesses that operate on thin margins, and consumers will see higher prices to compensate.
- Tesla tax (Senate Bill 5811): Identical to House Bill 2077, this bill adds a new tax on automakers that make a certain percentage of zero-emission vehicles. As written, it would likely apply only to Tesla. (As if setting fire to Tesla vehicles and dealerships wasn’t enough.)
Remember…the existing tax proposals sponsored by Democrats ARE STILL ALIVE. Everything is on the table as they finalize the budget.
So far, we know these bills will receive hearings tomorrow and you can sign in to oppose them and even testify against them.

Bill to ‘blow the doors’ off property taxes lives
Update on Senate Bill 5798
The horrible property tax bill is that tens of thousands of you signed in to oppose when it was heard in committee is STILL ALIVE. It’s scheduled to be voted out of the Senate budget committee this Friday. After that, the majority can bring it to the floor of the Senate for a vote. WE STILL STRONGLY OPPOSE THIS TAX.
If you recall, it removes the 1% cap on the annual amount by which state and local governments can increase your property taxes without a vote of the people. It would milk taxpayers for $16 billion over the next 10 years.
If it had been in effect over the past 10 years, you’d be paying 50% more in property taxes right now. Someone with a $500,000 home would be paying an additional $2,000 in property taxes this year. In 2023, their property taxes could have gone up 10.05%!
What can you do?
Don’t let up! Tell Democrat Senators on the Senate budget committee to KILL THIS BILL.
