THE MILEAGE TAX: Last year, the public and Legislative Republicans defeated The Mileage Tax from Olympia Democrats for the third year in a row. The tax proposal did not come back in 2026.Under the defeated Mileage Tax proposal, mileage would be calculated by a GPS tracker, annual odometer checks, and more. Olympia Democrats want to charge you a 2.6-cent mileage tax on EVERY MILE YOU DRIVE (HB 1921 & SB 5726). Even worse, you would get taxed on an additional 10% of your annual mileage tax sum. A TAX ON A TAX.Legislative Republicans and the public fought this terrible proposal every step of the way. Thank you to everyone who Signed-in CON against The Mileage Tax (HB 1921/SB 5726)!The Mileage Tax scheme, or "Road Usage Charge," comes from the mostly Inslee-appointed WA Transportation Commission. "I would say that it was a rough session, and there were a lot of bills that we didn't particularly care for, the millionaire's tax, which is an income tax, just kind of put a damper on everything in my opinion," King said. The governor also inked his name on a bill sponsored by retiring Senator Judy Warnick (R-Moses Lake.) "When I was first elected, this was a cow pasture. I represented Terrace Heights, that building over there was brand new, and I got to come and meet my constituents there," Warnick said. "Proud to have represented the district as long as I have."
